Nike has stirred up controversy once again with the unveiling of France’s new kit for Euro 2024. While much of the attention has been on Nike’s alterations to England’s St George’s Cross, France’s kit has also sparked debate among fans. The main point of contention is the enlarged size of the traditional cockerel emblem on the chest of the kit.
Some fans have criticized the design, calling it “totally disproportionate” and “uncalled-for.” However, others have embraced the larger emblem, with one fan noting, “We are often considered arrogant, so we might as well embrace it whole-heartedly.” Nike’s design for France’s kit pays homage to the 1970s kits, featuring an electric blue shirt and a collar in the colors of the French flag. Unlike the changes made to England’s kit, France’s traditional colors have been left untouched.
Despite the kit controversy, France remains a strong contender for Euro 2024, having reached the final of the 2022 World Cup. However, fans will be hoping to avoid a repeat of the disappointing performance at Euro 2020, where France squandered a 3-1 lead against Switzerland and ultimately lost on penalties.
