Raheem Sterling upset by Former Liverpool Chief’s remarks on black players’ potential legal issues

Former Norwich director of football, Stuart Webber, made controversial remarks suggesting that the careers of Jonny Rowe, Abu Kamara, Max Aarons, Jamal Lewis, and Raheem Sterling in football were crucial to avoid potential legal troubles.

Former Norwich director of football Webber was quoted by The Pinkun as suggesting that Jonny Rowe, Abu Kamara, Max Aarons, Jamal Lewis, and Sterling relied on successful football careers, stating “because the alternative is potentially jail or something else.” According to The Mirror, Sterling and the other mentioned players were outraged by these remarks. One player reportedly reached out to Webber personally seeking clarification, and the report indicates that Webber has since apologized to some players and their families.

Although Webber has reportedly communicated with some of the players involved, he has not yet spoken with Sterling or his family, leaving uncertainty about direct communication between the two parties. Webber previously served as director of recruitment at Liverpool from 2009 to 2012 before moving to QPR, and has also worked with Wolves, Huddersfield Town, and Norwich.

Sterling has played 25 league matches for Chelsea this season, scoring six goals and providing six assists. Despite rumors linking him with a move to Saudi Arabia, he is reportedly inclined to reject the opportunity, focusing instead on regaining top form at Stamford Bridge.

It remains to be seen if Sterling will receive an apology from Webber before Chelsea’s upcoming match against Burnley. The Blues currently sit in 11th place in the Premier League table but have an FA Cup semi-final clash against Sterling’s former club, Manchester City, on the horizon.
