Dean Huijsen has affirmed his imminent return to Juventus by the season’s end, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of football. He also confirmed that José Mourinho reached out to him in January regarding a move to Roma.
The talented central defender, originally from Amsterdam but raised in Spain, opted to represent La Roja, earning his first U21 international call-up during the March break.
Addressing his decision, Huijsen disclosed to Gazzetta that although the Netherlands expressed disappointment at his departure, they didn’t voice substantial complaints. Responding to inquiries about his preference between Sergio Ramos and Van Dijk, he unequivocally expressed admiration for Ramos, citing him as his idol and one of the finest central defenders in history.
Huijsen revealed that he nearly joined Frosinone on loan during the January transfer window but ultimately chose Roma. He expressed immediate interest in the move due to Roma’s stature as a prestigious club and the persuasive appeal of Mourinho’s call. Despite Mourinho’s subsequent dismissal in mid-January, Huijsen continued to feature regularly in Serie A, viewing it as a positive sign and crediting his adaptability to exceptional coaches and teammates.
With his contract at Juventus expiring in June 2028, Huijsen confirmed his commitment to returning to the Allianz Stadium at the end of the season, acknowledging the club’s pivotal role in his career and expressing gratitude towards them.
This season, Huijsen has made 13 senior appearances, representing both Juventus and Roma. Notably, he has netted two goals at the Stadio Olimpico, scoring against Cagliari and Frosinone, the latter being the club he was initially linked with before joining Roma.
