Football clubs worldwide have released their players for the March international fixtures, mostly consisting of friendly matches, with just two months remaining in the season. Neville has voiced disapproval regarding the timing of this international window and has made a forecast that Kane, who has amassed 37 goals across all competitions and holds a crucial role in Bayern’s aspirations for Champions League glory, might opt out of England’s second match against Belgium to ensure optimal sharpness for the pivotal stage of the season.

“I think Harry Kane might pull out the second game. He might play one game or do a deal,” Neville commented on the Stick to Football podcast, in partnership with Sky Bet. “We refer to it because of [Erling] Haaland and [Kevin] De Bruyne. I called it a couple of weeks ago – I said there’ll be pull outs in March, and straight away the two best players for City are out. It’s a badly placed international break, during a title run in. Push it into early December or August, but I don’t think it should split the season.”

Kevin De Bruyne was absent from Manchester City’s FA Cup quarter-final match against Newcastle due to a groin issue and is not included in Belgium’s squad for their fixtures against Ireland and England. Erling Haaland was observed leaving a training session for Norway with a limp, although he remains part of the squad for their friendlies against Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Neville disclosed that he and his Manchester United teammates were often encouraged to withdraw from international squads to ensure they remained fresh for the title race. He remarked, “I always think about the March international break because this is where Sir Alex Ferguson would pull players out of playing for their country. Sir Alex hated the March international break. If it was a proper qualifier the boss wouldn’t have any issues with us playing, but if it was a friendly in the March break, he wasn’t having it.”

Kane is gearing up for the friendlies against Brazil and Belgium with England before returning to Germany for Bayern’s league encounters against Borussia Dortmund and Heidenheim. Subsequently, he will head back to North London for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal.
