Nottingham Forest has been handed a four-point deduction for breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules, pushing them into the relegation zone. The sanction, applied by the Premier League, comes after Forest admitted to breaching the rules during the 2022/23 campaign. Under Financial Fair Play regulations, clubs cannot lose more than £105 million over three seasons.

Forest’s breach occurred while they were in the Championship, exceeding the allowed loss by £34.5 million. Since their promotion to the Premier League, Forest has made significant investments in players, breaking their transfer record three times. Despite their arguments that the breach occurred only for a short period due to accounting timing, the Premier League’s independent panel imposed the penalty.

In response, Forest expressed extreme disappointment, stating that the ruling has harmed their trust and confidence in the Premier League. They also voiced concern about the impact on the player trading model and the potential stagnation of the national game. Forest has two weeks to launch an appeal, but any appeal must be completed by May 24, after the season ends. This deduction follows Everton’s six-point penalty for a similar breach, with a potential second deduction looming for Everton.
