Newcastle United’s Sven Botman is set to be sidelined for at least six months after suffering an ACL injury during the team’s FA Cup defeat against Manchester City. The 24-year-old defender will undergo season-ending surgery next week.

The club hopes to have him back in action within six to nine months but acknowledges the possibility of a longer recovery period. Botman, who joined Newcastle last summer, has made 22 appearances in all competitions this season. The Dutch center-back is yet to be capped by the Netherlands senior team but was named in their Nations League squad last summer. His injury also rules him out of Euro 2024 contention.
