Newcastle United’s Sven Botman is set to be sidelined for at least six months after suffering an ACL injury during the team’s FA Cup defeat against Manchester City. The 24-year-old defender will undergo season-ending surgery next week.

The club hopes to have him back in action within six to nine months but acknowledges the possibility of a longer recovery period. Botman, who joined Newcastle last summer, has made 22 appearances in all competitions this season. His absence will be a significant blow to the team, as they aim to improve on their current 10th place in the Premier League.

The Dutch center-back is yet to be capped by the Netherlands senior team but was named in their Nations League squad last summer. His injury also rules him out of Euro 2024 contention. Everyone at Newcastle United has wished Botman a full and speedy recovery as he faces a challenging rehabilitation process.
