The first photographs of Harry Kane’s secret statue have been unveiled, four years after its creation. The sculpture of the England and Tottenham Hotspur record goal-scorer was commissioned by the borough of Waltham Forest in 2019. The statue, depicting Kane sitting on a bench in a football kit with a ball on his knee, has been sitting in storage due to the council’s inability to find a suitable location.
Despite being allocated £7,200 for the sculpture, the council has faced criticism for the delay and perceived waste of money. Fans and critics have expressed their dismay, with some suggesting the funds could have been better spent on essential services like waste collection or road repairs. Kane’s representatives have also emphasized the importance of finding the right location for the statue. Proposed locations, including Chingford’s Rail Station Overground Station and Ridgeway Park, have been considered but ultimately rejected.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has expressed hope that Kane will one day be honored with a statue outside Spurs’ stadium. Currently, Kane is training with the England squad ahead of their friendly against Brazil at Wembley, while he is also preparing to lead Bayern Munich’s attack in the Champions League quarter-finals against Arsenal next month.
