Thibaut Courtois, the former Chelsea goalkeeper currently with Real Madrid, has encountered a new injury setback during training, as reported by Spanish media. The Belgian shot-stopper, who has yet to feature this season due to a previous cruciate ligament injury suffered in August, is now facing an extended period on the sidelines.

According to Marca, Courtois left training in tears after tearing the meniscus in his right knee, a development likely to rule him out for the remainder of the campaign. The goalkeeper, who had recently returned to training following his initial injury, will undergo surgery for the new setback. Courtois had been ahead of schedule in his recovery process and was aiming to return to action for Real Madrid’s La Liga and Champions League campaigns. However, the club reacted to his latest injury by securing the loan signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea.

This injury setback adds to Courtois’ recent public feud with Belgium manager Domenico Tedesco. Courtois criticized Tedesco on social media, escalating tensions between the two. The goalkeeper’s international future now appears uncertain, and he is unlikely to be fit for Euro 2024 in the summer. The 31-year-old’s absence will be a significant blow to Real Madrid as they pursue success in domestic and European competitions.
