Former Brighton midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud has decided to switch his national team allegiances from Germany to Syria, citing a desire to bring joy to the people of Syria. The 28-year-old made two appearances for Germany in friendlies but never secured a spot for major tournaments, including Euro 2020.

Dahoud, who joined VFB Stuttgart from Brighton in the January transfer window, expressed his enthusiasm for playing for Syria, his family’s country of origin, and his birth country. He highlighted the importance of bringing happiness to the people of Syria, acknowledging the privilege of living in Germany while also honoring his roots.

Having already informed the Syrian Football Association of his decision, Dahoud is expected to make his debut for Syria during the next international break, where they are scheduled to play two friendlies against Myanmar. His move reflects a personal connection to his heritage and a desire to contribute positively to his birth country’s footballing landscape.
