Despite the injury, Barkley was able to continue playing after receiving treatment from the Luton medical team. The incident occurred when Barkley and Ward clashed while challenging for the ball.

While Ward emerged unscathed, Barkley was left with a bruised and bloodied nose, requiring a change of shirt due to the bloodstains. Unfortunately for Barkley, the match took a turn for the worse as Jean-Philippe Mateta scored for Palace just a minute after play resumed following Barkley’s injury. The goal was a result of a mistake by Luton’s Alfie Doughy, whose backpass allowed Daniel Munoz to set up Mateta for the goal.

Despite the injury setback, Barkley has been in impressive form since joining Luton from Nice and has set his sights on earning a spot in England’s Euro 2024 squad. His performances have also caught the attention of Manchester United, with club executives Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sir David Brailsford reportedly being admirers of the midfielder.
