Porto’s president, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, emphasized the club’s inability to intervene in Mehdi Taremi’s imminent transfer to Inter.
At 31 years old, the Iranian forward, Taremi, finds himself in the final six months of his contract with the Portuguese side and is poised to depart on a free transfer in the upcoming summer. His agreement with Inter, the Nerazzurri, is already in place.
Taremi has committed to a two-year deal with Inter, including an option for a third year, and is anticipated to undergo medical examinations with the club in the forthcoming months to finalize the transfer. Initially scheduled for last month, these medical tests were postponed due to fan demonstrations.
In an interview with TMW, Porto’s president, Pinto da Costa, addressed Taremi’s impending move to Inter for the summer.
He remarked, “Taremi is an important player, but we can’t do anything about it. He is an important player for us, as everyone is, but in the end, it matters who plays. This applies to Taremi or others. As happens in any big club, it also happens at Paris Saint-Germain.”
Pinto da Costa further explained, “At the end of their contracts, players are free to choose what their future will be. We can’t do anything about this, other than wish them to be happy.”
Despite Taremi’s diminished performance this season, contributing six goals and four assists in 1871 minutes across 25 matches for Porto, his departure seems inevitable.
