Atalanta has officially confirmed the completion of the transfer of striker Luis Muriel to MLS outfit Orlando City, accompanied by a heartfelt message.
The Colombian international underwent medical examinations over the past few days and finalized the signing of a three-year contract this afternoon, reportedly valued at approximately €1m.
“We are very excited to welcome Luis to Orlando. Whenever he’s on the field, he’s a player that is known to always be a threat to score, will force defences to account for him at all times, and has the ability to combine with and make his teammates better,” stated Luiz Muzzi, Executive Vice President of Soccer Operations and General Manager.
Having spent the majority of his career in Italy, Muriel represented Udinese, Lecce, Sampdoria, and Fiorentina, becoming Atalanta’s most expensive signing in 2019 with a fee of €21.2m.
“I am very excited and happy to be here, to live the atmosphere that is this city of the team and with a lot of desire to get started,” expressed Muriel to the Orlando City website.
“I had various offers when Oscar [Pareja] and Orlando called me. I made this decision when looking at the development of this Club, the players here and the desires of everyone to win titles, all were things that went into my decision. I’m excited to get started.”
Muriel holds the record for the most Serie A goals scored as a substitute in the league’s history.
“You entertained us, you made us dream and dance both across Italy and Europe. Your plays and your smiles will forever be a part of the history of Atalanta,” the club shared on its social media platforms.

Atalanta has assured fans that there will be an opportunity for Muriel to return to Bergamo and receive a proper farewell.
