Wayne Rooney is said to be in discussions with KSI’s Misfits Boxing brand regarding participation in a lucrative boxing match. The former Manchester United striker, known for his fondness for boxing, is considering donning his gloves for a one-time bout. Since his dismissal by Birmingham City on January 2 after a brief stint of managing only 15 games and a string of poor performances, Rooney has been without a job. According to reports from the Daily Star and the Daily Mirror, Rooney may be gearing up for another challenging encounter, albeit this time within the boxing ring.

Misfits Boxing, which launched in 2022, has attracted numerous celebrities and aspiring talents, including internet sensations like KSI and Logan Paul, musicians such as Ashley and Myles from Rak-Su, and various other personalities. With streams on DAZN and a wide reach, Misfits Boxing has amassed millions of pay-per-view viewers and has held events in venues across England and the United States. Rooney is said to be assessing his options before committing to a new venture in the boxing ring.

Despite his struggles at Birmingham, where he took over from John Eustace and saw the team’s fortunes decline from sixth to 20th in the Championship, Rooney’s managerial career has shown glimpses of promise. He earned praise for enduring a challenging period at Derby County, where the team faced a 21-point deduction in the 2021/22 season and was relegated from the Championship. Subsequently, Rooney managed DC United in the MLS, although he only secured 14 victories out of 53 games in charge.

Rooney will aim for a more successful boxing debut than his memorable knockout by former United teammate Phil Bardsley. The incident occurred during a friendly sparring session in Rooney’s kitchen, which was later captured in a widely circulated video, making headlines nationally. Rooney commemorated the event with an iconic celebration after scoring against Tottenham at Old Trafford a few days later.

Bardsley reminisced about the amusing incident on the UTD Podcast in 2021, describing the impromptu boxing match that ensued after boxing gloves mysteriously appeared during a casual gathering. Despite the momentary chaos and concern, the episode became a cherished memory among the friends.
