As the January transfer window approaches its end, there are lingering uncertainties surrounding the future of Ivory Coast international Amad. There remains a window of opportunity for him to secure a move, possibly on loan, before the winter deadline expires.

Amad had aspirations for a breakthrough season with Manchester United in 2023-24, but a knee injury during pre-season dashed those hopes. Since returning to fitness, he has only made one appearance as a substitute and was left unused on the bench during the Red Devils’ 4-2 FA Cup victory over Newport.

During his loan spell at Sunderland last season, Amad showcased his talent with 14 goals and four assists, prompting one Black Cats supporter to voice on social media: “Here, Amad Diallo – if they’re not going to start you in the FA Cup away at Newport County, it really really isn’t worth you giving them your time. Come home, come somewhere you are truly appreciated.” It was later revealed that Amad had liked the comment before deleting it from his timeline. Sunderland has openly expressed interest in bringing him back, with sporting director Kristjaan Speakman stating, “The situation is clear. We have a positive relationship with the boy, his people and Manchester United. Can he improve us? Yes. Have we enquired? Yes. Have we kept in contact with him? Yes. My head would be on a stake if not! Even if he became available we might not get him.”

The current transfer window is set to close on Thursday, leaving Amad likely to remain a subject of speculation until a definitive decision is reached regarding his future. If Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag cannot assure him of regular playing time, the talented winger is expected to seek minutes elsewhere.
