Dier has reunited with his former Tottenham teammate, Harry Kane, at the German powerhouse, just a few months after Kane’s departure from North London to join the Munich club.
In an official statement, Bayern announced, “FC Bayern have signed Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur on a deal until 30 June 2024, with the option for a further year. The England international defender will wear the No.15 shirt in Munich.”
Expressing his excitement upon becoming a Bayern player, Dier stated, “This move is a dream come true for me, because as a child you want to play for a club like Bayern one day. Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world and has an incredible history. I want to help the team with my versatility in defence. I’m really looking forward to my new teammates and the fans at the Allianz Arena, which in my eyes is one of the best stadiums in the world.”
Dier’s role at Tottenham has diminished under coach Ange Postecoglou this season. After making 33 Premier League appearances last season, he featured in only four top-flight matches during the current campaign. This limited playing time prompted his decision to leave North London and rejoin Kane in the Bundesliga.
The inclusion of the English international in Bayern’s squad for the upcoming Bundesliga clash against Hoffenheim remains uncertain at this point. As of now, the Bavarian side occupies the second position in the German top-flight, trailing leaders Bayer Leverkusen by four points.
