Sergio Ramos lost his composure when interrupted during a post-match interview with a Sevilla fan. The revered figure, who rejoined his childhood club Sevilla earlier in the year, was addressing the media on the field after his team’s 2-0 loss to Athletic Bilbao, a result that placed them 16th in La Liga, just one point above the relegation zone.

The interview abruptly paused as Ramos reacted sharply to shouts from a spectator in the home section, urging them to “be quiet” and “show some respect.” The seasoned defender expressed his frustration, saying, “Respect and be quiet! Leave. Show some respect for the people and for the team’s emblem. Respect the people. We’re having a conversation.”

Despite his plea, the supporter persisted, leading the 37-year-old Ramos to retort, “Yes, but respect the people. Respect them. Just be quiet.”

Sevilla is experiencing their poorest start in a La Liga season since the dismal 1999/2000 campaign that resulted in relegation to the Segunda Division. Out of their 19 league games, they’ve only managed to win three and have lost eight of their last 12 matches across all competitions.

Quique Sanchez Flores, the former Watford manager, took over in mid-December as Sevilla’s third manager of the season, following the departures of Jose Luis Mendilibar and Diego Alonso earlier in the campaign.

Despite winning the Europa League last season, securing a spot in this season’s Champions League, they were eliminated in the group stage after failing to secure a victory in any of their six matches.

Ramos, who spent eight years in Sevilla’s academy before joining the senior team in 2004 at the age of 18, left for Real Madrid in 2005 in a then-record ÂŁ25 million transfer for a Spanish defender. During his tenure at Real Madrid, Ramos made nearly 700 appearances, scoring 101 goals, and earned an impressive collection of 22 major titles, including four Champions Leagues and five La Liga trophies. He also captained the team from 2015 until his departure in 2021.

After two seasons at PSG, Ramos returned to Sevilla after an 18-year absence. Known for his dynamic defensive style, he holds the record for the most appearances for Spain with 180 caps and was a part of the 2010 World Cup-winning squad, as well as winning the Euros in 2008 and 2012.
