Arsenal has formally complained to the PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited) regarding what they perceive as insufficient punishment for the rough treatment that Bukayo Saka receives from opposition players. The Gunners expressed concerns during regular discussions with the refereeing body, citing an accumulation of incidents where Saka was subjected to fouls without appropriate penalties.
Saka, ranked as the third-most fouled player in the Premier League in 2023, faced 87 fouls. The club emphasized their worry, especially considering Saka’s Achilles injury and his impact on form. This complaint is crucial for England manager Gareth Southgate, who aims to have Saka in top condition for the upcoming Euros in Germany.
Despite the complaints, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has urged Saka to develop strategies to navigate physical challenges on the field. The recent incident during Arsenal’s victory against Brighton, where James Milner targeted Saka, prompted Arteta’s animated reaction on the sidelines, earning him a yellow card.
