In an interview with Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Sergino Dest shared how his move to PSV has reignited his passion for football. He expressed gratitude for the warm reception from both fans and the club, a much-needed contrast after his disappointing spells at Milan and struggles to make an impact at Barcelona under Xavi.

“It gives you freedom, if you don’t become a kind of robot. To be honest, at first I had no intention of returning to Holland, but suddenly I had a very good feeling. I needed the warmth that the people at PSV gave me at this moment in my career. I had to feel again well and really feeling at home,” he said. “So from there I was able to show myself again. Why didn’t I go back to Ajax? I don’t really have an opinion on that. There was a new board and they decide. I like to hear that many people think that Ajax should have brought me back.”

Under Peter Bosz’s guidance, Dest has endeared himself to the club’s supporters, visibly rediscovering his footballing identity. Operating as a skillful right full-back, he’s showcased remarkable prowess, displaying exceptional abilities against Arsenal in the Champions League and delivering impressive assists in the Eredivisie. With PSV leading the league and Dest contributing significantly, their success owes much to his contributions.

While PSV’s next competitive fixtures are slated for the new year, they have arranged two friendlies in early January. Their return to European action is set for February when they face Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League.
