Juventus squandered an opportunity to reclaim the top spot in Serie A as Genoa rallied to secure a 1-1 draw. The Turin powerhouse, trailing Inter Milan by two points at the start, narrowed the gap, yet Inter has the chance to widen their lead against Lazio on Sunday.

In Friday’s match, it often felt like a showdown between Genoa’s goalkeeper, Josep Martinez, and Juventus’ striker, Federico Chiesa. Chiesa had an early promising attempt thwarted by Martinez, and their clash set the stage for the game’s pivotal moments.

The deadlock broke after 28 minutes when Martinez fouled Chiesa inside the box, leading to a penalty that Chiesa confidently converted.

Despite Juventus’ lead, Genoa found the equalizer three minutes into the second half through Albert Gudmundsson’s spectacular volley from close range.

Chiesa had a golden opportunity to put Juventus ahead once more after intercepting a stray pass from Martinez, but his hesitation allowed Martinez to make a crucial save.

The resulting draw kept Genoa stationed in the 14th spot in the league standings.
