Barcelona prodigy Gavi was left overwhelmed with emotion following a severe injury sustained while representing Spain in the Euro 2024 qualifier against Georgia.

During the match, the young midfielder appeared to twist his knee while controlling the ball, even though no other player was in proximity.

Clearly sensing the gravity of the injury, Gavi winced in agony and was visibly upset as he received treatment and subsequently limped off the pitch.

A spokesperson from the Spanish Football Federation informed ESPN that the 19-year-old had incurred a “significant knee injury.” He is set to undergo examinations on Monday to assess the extent of the damage.

In a poignant gesture during the game, which Spain won 3-1, Ferran Torres paid tribute to Gavi by displaying his number nine jersey after celebrating a goal. Gavi has been an integral figure for both his club and the national team this season, featuring in nearly every game except for two due to suspension.

The injury marks another setback for Barcelona’s manager Xavi, who has faced the absence of key players such as Pedri and Frenkie de Jong throughout the season. Xavi has often referred to Gavi as the “heart and soul” of his team.

Support poured in from fans, transcending club rivalries, with Real Madrid supporters expressing their sympathies. One fan lamented the distressing nature of Gavi’s injury, remarking on the audible anguish, while another, despite being a rival fan, conveyed a dislike for witnessing such unfortunate incidents involving talented players.

A concerned Barcelona supporter expressed both heartache and frustration, emphasizing the recurrent injuries plaguing the team’s key players and wished Gavi a swift recovery from this setback.
