Lionel Messi has left fans wondering if he decided to dress up as darts legend Bobby George for Halloween.

In a remarkable eighth achievement of his illustrious career, Messi was awarded the Ballon d’Or in Paris on Monday, solidifying his status as the greatest football player in history.

This 36-year-old soccer icon capped off an extraordinary year by claiming the World Cup in Qatar at the end of the previous year.

Following the award ceremony, Adidas expressed their congratulations to their iconic ambassador on social media.

Messi’s photo depicted him with his head resting in his hands, showcasing gold rings on eight of his fingers, symbolizing his record eight Ballon d’Or victories.

However, the caption of the post, which read, “Countless memories, eight rings, zero doubt” triggered a humorous response on social media. Fans swiftly raised the question of whether Messi was actually emulating darts legend Bobby George, known for his penchant for gold rings and necklaces during his own career.

A Twitter comment humorously suggested, “Dressed as Bobby George for Halloween.”

Bobby George, fittingly nicknamed ‘The King of Bling,’ achieved victory in the News of the World Darts Championship in 1979 and 1986, with two runner-up finishes in the BDO World Championship, falling short to Eric Bristow in 1980 and John Part in 1994.

His distinctive style on the darts stage remains unmatched to this day.

Notably, despite his status as one of the early darts superstars, George never transitioned to the PDC, which emerged as a separate entity from the BDO in 1992. Even though Phil Taylor attempted to recruit him, George was content with his earnings from other endeavors, particularly his work in the brewery industry.

He once explained his decision, stating, “There was Phil Taylor and his dad there and he came round with a bit of scroll paper to sign it. I said ‘what’s that?’ He said we’re starting a union so we’d have more television tournaments.”

“It didn’t bother me that as I was doing work for the breweries and earning good money. I didn’t chase trophies, you can’t eat trophies can you. You can’t go into a restaurant and say I just want to order a trophy, give us a bill. They’d tell you to f*** off wouldn’t they so I went the money side.”
