The controversy arose because, according to Iranian law, touching a married woman is equivalent to adultery, and Hamimi is a fan of the Portuguese star who is reportedly paralyzed to some extent.
Although the reports had raised concerns, the Iranian Embassy supported Ronaldo’s gesture and denied any intention to sentence him.
