The Belgian departed from Chelsea after a single season at Stamford Bridge to join Inter Milan on loan.

Lukaku initially performed well during his return to Chelsea but experienced a drop in form and clashed with then-manager Thomas Tuchel.

He managed to score 14 goals for Inter in the previous season and came back to Chelsea during the summer, only to be loaned out once more, this time to Roma.

His future with the London club remains highly uncertain, and his relationship with the fans has remained strained since his December 2021 interview where he expressed a desire to return to Inter.

Lukaku recently revealed that he might have had a tumultuous departure last summer. During a press conference with the Belgian national team, he mentioned, “Most of the people here in the room know me. I don’t like beating around the bush.”

“I’ll speak in time, but if I actually said how last summer went, everyone would be shocked.”

“There were times when I really thought I might explode, five years ago I probably wouldn’t have stood back and done it.”

“Now I am focused on what I do best, I know how to play football. I worked hard all summer. I also have to thank Radja Nainggolan for giving me the contact with Roma.”

Since joining Roma in the summer, Lukaku has rediscovered the form that previously established him as one of Europe’s top strikers.

He has netted seven goals in eight appearances for the club under the guidance of Jose Mourinho.

Lukaku’s contract with Chelsea remains valid until 2026, and the upcoming summer is likely to fuel speculations about his future once again. However, a return to Chelsea seems improbable, as the striker is currently excelling in Serie A.
