Rodri’s absence confirmed for Arsenal showdown as Manchester City accepts three-game suspension

Rodri was dismissed in City's victory following a collision with Morgan Gibbs-White of Forest. He will miss the crucial Arsenal match while serving a three-game suspension.

Rodri Will Miss Out On Game Against Arsenal

Manchester City has chosen not to contest Rodri’s three-game suspension for violent conduct, resulting in the central midfielder’s absence from the crucial Arsenal match scheduled in two weeks.

Rodri received a red card for his actions involving Morgan Gibbs-White’s throat during Saturday’s 2-0 victory against Nottingham Forest. His suspension begins this Wednesday, coinciding with City’s Carabao Cup clash against Newcastle.

Manager Pep Guardiola did not support the idea of appealing the decision, emphasizing the importance of Rodri learning from his actions. The club has aligned with Guardiola’s perspective on this matter.

In addition to missing the Arsenal fixture, Rodri will also be unavailable for the upcoming Saturday game against Wolves. Kalvin Phillips is hoping for an opportunity to start in his absence, with Guardiola opting to rest key players like Kyle Walker and Ruben Dias against Newcastle due to exhaustion caused by the demanding schedule.

Manchester City is dealing with injury concerns, with players like Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic having missed the previous weekend’s match. Kovacic has since participated in training, and Guardiola will assess his fitness for the third-round match in Tyneside.

Regarding the red card incident, Guardiola remarked, “Rodri has to control himself and his emotions.”

“This is what he has to do. I can get a yellow card but Rodri cannot get a yellow card. I do not play. The guys inside have to be careful.”

“Rodri needs to learn.”
