Reuters, Paris, August 27 – Olympique Lyonnais earned their first point of the new French league season with a 0-0 draw against Nice, while unfashionable Lorient, Metz, and Stade de Reims all triumphed in Ligue 1 on Sunday.
Lyon, under by former France manager Laurent Blanc, had dropped their first two games but battled to a bloody draw to start the season.
It was a lackluster game that offered little evidence that Lyon had turned the corner, but it will be a relief to escape suffering a third straight loss.
Lorient won for the first time this season after jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead and dominating Lille 4-1.
Within 90 seconds, Julien Ponceau extended the lead by hammering a spectacular shot into the top of the net after captain Laurent Abergel pounced on a careless pass out by Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.
Early in the second half, Jonathan David scored to make it 1-1, but Romain Faivre quickly regained the two-goal lead with a chip over the goalie, and Vincent Le Goff quickly added the fourth.
Teddy Teuma, a recent addition to Reims, scored two outstanding goals—the first from a direct free kick and the second from a thunderous half-volley—as they defeated Montpellier 3-1 on the road, winning for the second week in a row.
With six points, Reims has moved up to third place, one point behind early leaders Olympique de Marseille and Monaco.
