26 August (Reuters) Despite Richarlison’s troubles in front of goal thus far in the new season, Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has confidence in the striker to score frequently this year.
Richarlison, who joined Spurs from Everton in July of last year and has made 37 appearances in all competitions, is failed to score a goal this season despite having three goals and four assists to his name.
According to British media, the 26-year-old was signed for about 50 million pounds ($60 million) and an additional 10 million pounds in add-ons.
Prior to Saturday’s match against Bournemouth, Postecoglou told reporters, “I am sure Richy wants to score goals, but far more important for me is how he is contributing to our team set-up, and I thought he was good last weekend.”
“From my standpoint, that is the most important thing, and I am confident the goals will come, but there is no point getting the goals if the team is not performing,” the author said.
On the eve of the new season, the club’s icon and leading scorer Harry Kane was traded to Bayern Munich of Germany. Following the departure of the England captain, Richarlison is anticipated to assume the role at Spurs.
“I don’t think there is that much weight to bear there. This football team ultimately needed to evolve, Postecoglou remarked.
“I believe that everyone at the club has accepted Harry’s departure. He’s moved on to a new challenge, and I have no doubt that he will succeed there. We now face a struggle of our own.
“I don’t believe that comparing oneself to something that is no longer present or relevant is useful. If it were coming off the heels of an age of success, it would be different.
Only two top-flight matches into his tenure as Spurs’ manager, Postecoglou has already succeeded in dispelling the doom that had been overshadowing the north London club when the Australian joined from Scottish Premiership side Celtic.
After a 2-2 draw at Brentford, he has led Spurs to a 2-0 home victory over Manchester United in an effort to surpass their eighth-place finish from the previous year.
