After seeing the FIFA World Cup final, Emma Raducanu left with a lot of excitement for her own profession. According to Raducanu, she was extremely impressed after watching soccer greats Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe perform at their peak under intense pressure on such a large stage.
The British tennis player, whose own WTA Tour 2022 season was cut short in its latter stages due to injury, finished the year by focusing on her fitness and watching the World Cup final between France and Argentina in Qatar. In spite of Kylian Mbappe’s amazing goal-scoring performances, the World Cup final ended with the legendary Lionel Messi realizing his lifetime dream of winning the championship.
Emma Raducanu commented: “To watch Messi and Mbappe go head-to-head was really cool. What Mbappe was able to do in that final was amazing. I’m really happy for Messi because he just finished it off perfectly.
It was just so good to see how they kind of handled the stage and the moment. I think you can learn from how they dealt with it, how they just kept going, how they were taking penalties under pressure. It was pretty amazing to watch.”
