The former England international, who joined Everton in January 2022, aims to demonstrate his fitness and form during the pre-season. After undergoing another surgery in January, injuries have hindered the 28-year-old from rejuvenating his career.

Dele became a free agent following the 2023-24 season as his contract at Goodison Park expired. Despite much speculation about a new start elsewhere, he hasn’t played competitively since February 2023, during a loan stint at Besiktas in Turkey.

Everton has agreed with Spurs that no “significant” fee will be required if they offer Dele a new contract. Consequently, he is permitted to spend the summer training with Dyche’s squad in preparation for the 2024-25 Premier League season.

Dyche, while providing an update on Dele’s current status, mentioned that although Dele didn’t play in the 2-1 friendly defeat to Salford, he is getting fitter and just starting to participate in training sessions. Dyche stated, “Dele is getting fitter but only really just breaking into training. Forgetting about the contract situation. He’s generally with us and getting fitter.”

Dele has faced challenges both on and off the field, but it is hoped that he is now free from physical issues. Once a 20-goal-a-season midfielder at Tottenham, Dele still possesses considerable talent that can be unleashed if he finds a supportive and healthy environment.
