AC Milan is set to renew their interest in Everton’s versatile defender, Ben Godfrey. The Serie A giants had previously enquired about the 26-year-old during the final days of the January transfer window, but Everton, battling relegation, were reluctant to negotiate. Now, with Everton facing financial difficulties, Milan is prepared to test their resolve, stepping up their interest in the £10 million-rated player.
Godfrey, who joined Everton from Norwich for £25 million in 2020, is entering the final year of his contract, attracting attention from long-term admirers Borussia Dortmund. Euro clubs are aware that Godfrey could sign a pre-contract deal with a foreign club as soon as January, increasing pressure on Everton. If he moves to the San Siro, he will join fellow Englishmen Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Godfrey impressed under Sean Dyche, becoming a regular starter and making 13 of his 16 appearances from January onwards.
Despite Everton finishing 15th and being docked eight points, they face a firesale of players due to financial issues following the collapse of the 777 Partners takeover. Key players like Jarrad Branthwaite, Jordan Pickford, and Amadou Onana are also up for sale, with Manchester United and Newcastle showing interest.
