Manchester United faces challenges in offloading Brazilian midfielder Casemiro as part of Ineos chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s takeover of football operations at Old Trafford. The new regime aims to reduce the club’s wage bill, but Casemiro’s £350,000-a-week salary, coupled with two and a half years left on his contract, poses a stumbling block.
Having joined United from Real Madrid for £60 million in August 2022, the 31-year-old midfielder’s potential departure would incur around £30 million in owed wages. Ratcliffe’s team, including Sir Dave Brailsford, has uncovered additional costs in the squad, limiting incoming business in the January window. Donny van de Beek has moved on loan to Eintracht Frankfurt, Sergio Reguilon returned to Tottenham after a temporary spell, and Jadon Sancho is set to return to Borussia Dortmund on loan for the remainder of the season.
Sancho’s strained relationship with manager Erik ten Hag, stemming from training-level criticisms, resulted in his exclusion from the first team, and a permanent move to Dortmund is not included in the loan deal.
Here is the highlight video of some of the skills, goals and assists that Casemiro provides for Manchester United.
