Former West Ham star Dimitri Payet has had his contract with Brazilian club Vasco da Gama terminated by mutual consent. The 38-year-old joined the club in August 2023 but has now left just 10 months into a two-year deal.
Vasco da Gama thanked Payet for his professionalism and contributions, which included eight goals and 16 assists in 77 appearances. The decision comes weeks after Payet was accused by ex-lover Larissa Ferrari of abuse during a seven-month affair. Ferrari claimed the married footballer subjected her to physical, psychological, and sexual violence, including degrading acts such as making her drink urine and participate in a fake wedding.
Payet, who denies all allegations and insists the relationship was consensual, is married with four children. The scandal has cast a shadow over Payet’s late career, following stints at Marseille and West Ham, where he rose to prominence.
