Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand has landed a surprising new job in Thailand, marking a shift from traditional punditry to the virtual football scene, just weeks after ending his decade-long role at TNT Sports.
The 46-year-old will front a Q&A session and participate in an FC Mobile Showmatch at the Visa Presents EA SPORTS FC Mobile Festival in Bangkok on June 14-15. Ferdinand will also present the winner’s trophy and a £22,000 prize at the event, which attracts top FC Mobile players from across Asia and the Middle East. His new role coincides with the first two games of the Club World Cup in the US.
Announcing the news on social media, Ferdinand expressed excitement about the opportunity, describing the event as where “passion, skill, and football culture collide.” He left TNT Sports after the Champions League final on May 31, hinting at new ventures and focusing more on his personal brand and businesses. Sources suggest he may return to TNT in some capacity in the future.
