Journalist Florian Plettenberg reports that Lyon have rejected Manchester City’s initial offer for Rayan Cherki, though a second bid is currently being prepared. The 21-year-old winger remains calm as he awaits a deal between the two clubs.
After France’s narrow 5-4 defeat to Spain in the Nations League on Thursday, Cherki hinted that his transfer from Lyon to City is close to being finalized. The versatile right winger, who can also operate as an attacking midfielder, is said to have already agreed on personal terms with the Premier League club, suggesting it’s only a matter of time before he joins the Etihad Stadium.
Cherki, considered a potential successor to City legend Kevin De Bruyne, has had an impressive season with Lyon, netting 12 goals and providing 20 assists across all competitions in Ligue 1.
With a reported £25 million ($34 million) release clause in his Lyon contract, which runs until 2026, Cherki could also be featured in France’s upcoming Nations League third-place match against Germany on Sunday.
