Liverpool have been targeting Bournemouth’s standout left-back for a while as they look to strengthen their options on that side. Despite being 31 and no longer in his prime, Scottish international Andy Robertson has made it clear he’s ready to fight for his place, regardless of whether the club signs the Hungarian player.
When asked about the transfer rumors involving Milos Kerkez, Robertson told BBC Scotland, “We’re not foolish, it seems a deal might happen. But until it’s official, I haven’t really thought about it. I believe in myself and my abilities, and that motivates me every day. I’ve had eight amazing years at Liverpool, winning trophies and being a regular in the team, something I’m very proud of. I can’t change my age, but I still feel I have plenty to offer, and that’s where my focus lies. I concentrate on my own performance—not on others or competition.”
Following Liverpool’s Premier League triumph, speculation has grown that Robertson and some other players could be moved on or lose their starting roles as the club pursues new signings for the next season. However, the Liverpool veteran is determined not to give up and appears ready to embrace the challenge of competing with Kerkez for the left-back spot under manager Arne Slot.
If Liverpool completes the Kerkez signing, it might spell the end for fellow left-back Kostas Tsimikas at the club. The 21-year-old Bournemouth player is believed to cost around £45 million ($61 million), which could lead to Tsimikas being sold to help balance Liverpool’s finances.
