Bruno Fernandes given deadline by Al-Hilal amid £200m Saudi move talks after UEL heartbreak

Al-Hilal are pushing to sign Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes with a massive £200m offer that includes a three-year contract worth up to £65m per season.

According to The Daily Mail, Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal are increasingly confident of landing Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and have reportedly asked the midfielder to make a definitive decision by the end of May. The club has put forward a lucrative three-year contract offer, featuring a base salary of £700,000 per week. When combined with signing bonuses and performance-based incentives, the total annual earnings could reach up to £65 million ($88 million).

To help fast-track the deal, Al-Hilal are prepared to pay United a transfer fee of £100 million ($135 million). Their urgency is linked to the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, set to begin next month, where they hope to present Fernandes as a marquee signing. With the clock ticking, Al-Hilal are expected to submit a final formal bid soon and will reportedly give Fernandes just 72 hours to respond. If he declines, they are ready to pursue other targets.

Speaking after Manchester United’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham, Fernandes openly addressed the swirling speculation about his future. He admitted that if the club felt it was time to cash in on him, he would accept the decision, saying: “If the club thinks it’s time to part ways because they want to do some cashing in, it is what it is.”

Though Fernandes, who turns 30 this year, is reportedly happy at Old Trafford, he’s carefully evaluating his options. The lack of European football next season and an automatic 25% wage reduction—triggered by United missing out on the Champions League—further highlight the financial disparity between staying and joining Al-Hilal. Moreover, the club’s uncertain direction under newly appointed manager Ruben Amorim may not instill the confidence Fernandes is seeking in the final peak years of his career.

Despite Al-Hilal’s staggering proposal, Manchester United are said to be reluctant to sell their captain. Club sources maintain that there’s no current intention to let him go. However, financial pressures could change that stance. Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat to Spurs not only left United trophyless but also cost them Champions League qualification—estimated to result in a revenue loss of nearly £100 million. Adding to the financial blow is a £10 million ($13.5 million) payout to Adidas, triggered by missing Europe’s top competition, along with a likely drop in Premier League merit payments due to their expected 16th or 17th-place finish.

Should Fernandes accept the Saudi switch, his position in the Portugal national team likely wouldn’t be at risk. Cristiano Ronaldo’s continued selection post-Al-Nassr move in 2022 has already set that precedent. But time is of the essence: with Al-Hilal’s offer on the table, Fernandes now faces what may be the most consequential choice of his career.
