When asked about Maguire’s omission—despite the United defender occasionally being used up front this season—Tuchel said:
“Harry is always in our thoughts. He’s a natural central defender but has also stepped up as a No.9 when needed, as everyone has seen! He remains a set-piece threat, has a strong personality, and shows resilience during tough times at club level.
“At the moment, Ezri Konsa retains his place. Dan Burn stays too as a left-footer, and although Marc Guehi is more comfortable on the left, we opted for Levi Colwill, another left-footed option, given Guehi’s injuries.
“Right now, we see Trevoh slightly ahead of Harry. I already have a clear understanding of what Harry brings to the team, both in quality and mentality. With Trevoh, I’m curious to see how he adapts to the England setup. His performances have been strong, and he’s competing in a Champions League battle—something we’ve taken into account.”
Meanwhile, Maguire’s long-term future at Manchester United remains uncertain. Although he has worked his way back into regular involvement, the entire squad under manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly open to transfer offers following a disappointing season.
