Real Madrid have cleverly sidestepped a potential squad selection issue ahead of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, thanks to a smart clause integrated into player contracts. As reported by Marca, the club anticipated post-pandemic disruptions and included a provision stating that any official tournament, regardless of timing, would be covered by the player’s existing contract—even if it extends beyond the typical June 30 expiration date.

This foresight has proven especially valuable ahead of this year’s revamped Club World Cup, which stretches into July. Typically, players whose contracts expire at the end of June would need formal renewals to participate in such events. However, due to this unique clause, Luka Modric, Lucas Vazquez, and Jesus Vallejo are all contractually obligated to stay with the team until Real Madrid’s campaign in the tournament ends.

Since most clubs didn’t adopt a similar approach, FIFA has introduced a temporary solution—a special transfer window from June 1 to June 10. This window gives clubs a chance to renegotiate contracts, finalize transfers, and adjust their squads in preparation for the global competition.

Despite battling a season full of injuries, Real Madrid’s contractual safeguard ensures stability in their lineup. With experienced players like Modric still in the ranks, the club is well-positioned to make another strong run on the world stage.
