Rasmus Højlund has praised Mason Mount for his match-winning performance in Manchester United’s 4-1 triumph over Athletic Club, which secured their place in the Europa League final. The Danish striker highlighted Mount’s impact off the bench, calling his contribution decisive in turning the game around.

United had fallen behind early to a stunning strike from Mikel Jauregizar, but Mount’s introduction in the second half changed the momentum. His first goal leveled the score, and his second—a spectacular long-range effort—sealed the victory. Casemiro and Højlund also found the net, completing a dominant second-half display.

This is what he said:

“I’m very pleased for him [Mount]. He’s one of my very good friends in this team,” said Hojlund.

“We came in the same summer and had a very good connection ever since. He’s a good lad. He’s always working very hard. He’s been getting a lot of stick because he’s had a couple of injuries, but he’s always been positive, trying to help and trying to get fit all the time.

“He’s only had one goal, to get back on the pitch and yeah, do what he did today.”

Speaking after the match, Højlund credited Mount’s composure and technical ability, stating that his teammate’s performance was a reflection of his quality and determination. He emphasized that Mount’s goals lifted the team and gave them the confidence to push forward.

With United now set to face Tottenham Hotspur in the final, Højlund expressed excitement about the challenge ahead. He believes the team is in strong form and ready to compete for the trophy in Bilbao.

As preparations begin for the final, Mount’s performance has reinforced his importance to the squad, and United fans will be eager to see if he can deliver another standout display on the big stage.
