According to The Telegraph, Arsenal have identified Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres as their preferred option to lead the attack next season. Newly appointed sporting director Andrea Berta is reportedly a strong admirer of the Swedish forward, and Gyökeres is believed to favour a move to Arsenal over Manchester United if both clubs make formal approaches.
Gyökeres has been in phenomenal form since his move from Coventry to Sporting in 2023, netting an incredible 52 goals in 48 matches this season. While Alexander Isak remains Arsenal’s ideal signing, there is a growing understanding that prying him away from Newcastle may not be feasible.
The report also notes that Berta had previously tried to bring Gyökeres to Atletico Madrid and has maintained close interest in the player ever since. Sporting are reportedly open to selling him for a fee below his release clause and have already shortlisted potential replacements.
With crucial fixtures against Liverpool, Newcastle, and Southampton still to come, Arsenal are focused on a strong finish to the season before ramping up their efforts to strengthen the squad in pursuit of next year’s Premier League title.
