In a recent interview, Malick Fofana’s agent shared that Liverpool would be the preferred destination if the young Belgian winger were to leave Lyon this summer.
Fofana has had an impressive season in Ligue 1, scoring 11 goals and providing 5 assists across all competitions, attracting attention from Premier League clubs. Liverpool, expected to be more active in this summer’s transfer market than last year, have already been linked with the 20-year-old.
Bobo Fofana, Malick’s agent, stated to Africafoot: “The heart’s choice would be Liverpool. He has the potential to be part of the rotation, and it would be amazing to see him follow in the footsteps of African legends like Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and El Hadji Diouf. On the other hand, the logical choice could be Newcastle, a well-organized club where he could gain experience before potentially moving to a top-five European club.”
He continued, “Malick has the profile to thrive in the Premier League, with traits similar to Manchester United’s Amad Diallo—speed, impact, and the ability to create chances. There’s no doubt he could make an impression. For him, it would be a chance to keep developing and showcase his talent in a league known for its fast-paced, transitional play. However, he’ll need to choose the right club, as the competition is tough in England.”
Although Fofana has both Guinean and Filipino roots, he made his international debut for Belgium last October, coming on as a late substitute in a 2-2 Nations League draw against Italy.
While Fofana’s future could be a hot topic in the summer transfer window, Lyon still have two more Ligue 1 games to play this season, starting with Monaco on Saturday before their final match against Angers.
