The Denmark international has occasionally struggled with the pressure of wearing the No.9 shirt at Old Trafford. However, he managed to find the back of the net and secure a point for Manchester United in their 1-1 draw at Bournemouth.
This goal ended a six-match scoring drought, but Hojlund has only netted four times in the Premier League this season and has scored a total of nine goals across 46 appearances in all competitions.
United’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, has reminded Hojlund of the high expectations placed on him as the club’s main striker. Speaking to MUTV, Fernandes stated: “Strikers are here to score goals, and we all understand that. He knows the responsibility of being United’s No.9, and he needs to score. That’s the expectation at a club like this, for him and for everyone else. Those who have the ability to get into the box and score must do so. Today, it was Rasmus, and we’re all happy to see a striker find the net. Hopefully, it will give him the confidence to build on this.”
Manager Ruben Amorim also weighed in, telling Sky Sports: “It’s always important for strikers to score, but the role is about more than just goals. It’s a positive boost, but every new game is a fresh challenge, and we must continue moving forward.”
With United’s hopes of salvaging their disappointing season resting on a potential Europa League victory, the club is reportedly exploring options for new strikers, including Victor Osimhen and Liam Delap, after seeing Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggle to provide consistent spark in the attack.
