Rashford’s season cut short! Aston Villa loanee ‘likely’ to miss remaining games, Man Utd future in doubt

The attacker picked up the injury during training last week, which caused him to miss Villa’s FA Cup semi-final loss to Crystal Palace on Saturday. According to The Athletic, the Manchester United loanee is now “highly likely” to be sidelined for the rest of the 2024-25 season.

There is a slim chance that Rashford could return in time for Villa’s penultimate match against Tottenham, though the game may be rescheduled from its current date of May 18. However, he will not be available for their final match against his parent club, Man Utd, on May 25.

The 27-year-old will undergo additional tests to assess the injury’s severity, although surgery is not expected to be necessary. Rather than returning to Manchester, Rashford will continue his rehabilitation at Villa Park, which may indicate his potential stay with Villa beyond the summer.

After Villa’s disappointing FA Cup exit to Palace, head coach Unai Emery addressed the situation in a press conference, saying: “He’s injured. He got injured this week, and we tested him yesterday—it’s his hamstring. We’ll assess him before each match, but he’s injured and likely won’t be available for a few weeks.”

This untimely injury could complicate Rashford’s future at Villa. The club has a £40 million ($50m) option to make his move permanent, but it’s uncertain whether they’ll exercise that option, despite Rashford’s solid form, contributing 10 goal involvements in 17 appearances. For now, his focus is on recovering in time for England’s fixtures in June.
