At just 20 years old, Alejandro Garnacho was once seen as a future star and leader at Old Trafford following his breakout season in 2022-23. However, the winger’s reputation has taken a hit amid Manchester United’s ongoing struggles.
United have even explored the possibility of selling the Argentine, who has netted five league goals this season, with Chelsea reportedly interested in a move for him in January. Former Chelsea player Frank Leboeuf has been critical of Garnacho’s performance this term and has urged him to step up.
“Alejandro Garnacho has had a disappointing season. Many believed he had a promising future, but he needs to make significant improvements based on what we’ve seen from him this year to live up to his potential,” Leboeuf said to BetVictor Casino.
“He can be quite awkward in games, which wasn’t the case when he first emerged—he was full of energy and confidence. His decision-making has been lacking, and it seems he’s lost the flair he once had. Being a young player, I hope he can turn things around.”
There’s still a chance Garnacho could be sold in the summer if United receive a tempting offer, as manager Ruben Amorim may look to reinvest the funds into strengthening his squad for the 2025-26 season.
