Premier League officials have defended the decision to only book Tyler Adams for a dangerous tackle during Bournemouth’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United. Adams lunged at Alejandro Garnacho with both feet off the ground but was only shown a yellow card by referee Peter Bankes.
VAR reviewed the challenge and upheld the decision, stating the tackle was “reckless” but did not meet the threshold for “serious foul play. “The Premier League clarified the call through its official Match Centre X account. Many fans expressed outrage online, arguing that similar incidents had previously resulted in red cards. Moments after the tackle, Antoine Semenyo fired Bournemouth into the lead.
Controversy continued as United were denied two penalty claims when Harry Maguire was pulled down twice, but VAR again chose not to intervene. Bournemouth’s Evanilson later received a straight red card for a foul on Noussair Mazraoui after a VAR review. United salvaged a point thanks to Rasmus Hojlund’s late equalizer.
