The reigning champions were stunned at the Emirates Stadium last week, as Arsenal handed them a crushing 3-0 defeat in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash. Declan Rice dazzled with two spectacular free-kick goals, while Mikel Merino added a third, putting the Gunners firmly in control and within touching distance of the semi-finals.

Now facing a steep challenge in the return leg at the Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has called on his squad to play with “heart and balls” in an effort to mount a fierce comeback against the Premier League giants.

The Italian manager also addressed speculation surrounding his future, brushing off suggestions that a Champions League exit would lead to his dismissal.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Ancelotti said, “We need to play with a lot of heart and balls.”

He continued, “I don’t believe this match against Arsenal will determine my future at Real Madrid. I’m focused on tomorrow. Stay cool-headed and keep pushing forward. This isn’t my first big game — and I hope it won’t be my last. I’m genuinely excited.”

Following their clash with Mikel Arteta’s side on Wednesday, Los Blancos will return to domestic duty, hosting Athletic Club in a key La Liga fixture on April 20.
