Kevin De Bruyne turned back the clock with a sensational display to inspire Manchester City’s comeback victory, keeping their push for a top-five finish—and a Champions League spot—very much alive. The veteran midfielder, set to depart at season’s end, scored, assisted, and orchestrated the game masterfully as City recovered from a shocking two-goal deficit.

Crystal Palace silenced the Etihad early, striking just six minutes in. A lapse in City’s defense allowed Ismaila Sarr to race down the right and square the ball to Eberechi Eze, who had a simple tap-in. City nearly responded instantly through Omar Marmoush, but Dean Henderson denied him from close range. Meanwhile, VAR dismissed Pep Guardiola’s furious appeals for a penalty following a challenge by Chris Richards.

Palace continued to capitalize on City’s defensive frailty, doubling their lead in the 21st minute from a corner. Adam Wharton’s delivery caused confusion in the box, and Richards headed home as Ederson misjudged his punch—marking Palace’s league-leading 14th set-piece goal of the season.

De Bruyne rattled the post as City pushed for a response during a chaotic first half. Palace nearly made it three through Sarr and Eze, the latter having a goal ruled out for offside. But the game flipped in a dramatic three-minute spell. First, De Bruyne pulled one back with a smart free-kick that bounced in off the post, then Marmoush equalized moments later, smashing in a loose ball after De Bruyne’s headed assist.

City came out firing after halftime, and it wasn’t long before they took the lead. De Bruyne set up Mateo Kovacic for City’s third, before James McAtee added a fourth—rounding Henderson after latching onto Ederson’s pinpoint long ball that beat Palace’s high line.

From then on, City were in full control. Nico O’Reilly capped off the comeback with a deflected volley in the 79th minute, sealing an emphatic 5-2 win and keeping City’s Champions League hopes very much alive.
