Rob Couhig, former Wycombe Wanderers owner, has agreed to a £25 million deal to purchase Reading FC, aiming to save the club from administration. This revived offer comes after Robert Platek’s bid fell through earlier this week.
The EFL has set an April 22 deadline for current owner Dai Yongge to finalize the sale, following Yongge’s disqualification in February due to debts and legal issues in China. To speed up the process, Couhig has agreed to pay a larger portion of the fee upfront, along with faster due diligence and a shortened cooling-off period.
The American lawyer previously attempted to buy the club, signing two exclusivity agreements in a saga spanning nearly 600 days and five failed deals. The EFL is monitoring progress and may consider an extension if the deal nears completion. Meanwhile, Reading’s on-field performance remains strong, holding sixth in League One after a 3-1 win over Shrewsbury. The Royals face Northampton Town next.
