Coventry City head coach Frank Lampard has been charged with misconduct by the FA following his side’s 2-1 home defeat to Burnley on April 5. Lampard was dismissed after the final whistle for allegedly confronting referee James Bell and using “abusive and/or insulting words.” The FA has given the 46-year-old until April 14 to respond to the charge.

The incident overshadowed Lampard’s impressive turnaround at Coventry, having propelled the club from mid-table into the Championship playoff spots since taking over in November. Performance analyst Connor Lawley was also charged for his actions during the post-match outburst.

Despite the controversy, Coventry bounced back with a 1-0 win over Portsmouth on Wednesday, thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Jamie Paterson. Paterson, a lifelong Coventry fan, joined the club in February and was praised by Lampard for his impact both on and off the pitch.
