Former Colombian footballer Elkin Blanco has been hospitalized after being shot during an attempted armed robbery at his bar in Medellín. CCTV footage captured the 35-year-old, who played for Millionarios and Atletico Nacional, confronting one of the gunmen in a brave firefight.
The assailants, wearing motorbike helmets, entered the establishment and opened fire. Blanco, struck four times, is now recovering at home and out of danger. Tragically, 25-year-old Duván Alejandro Mosquera Vargas, who also resisted the robbers, died after being shot. Mayor Federico Gutierrez confirmed police have identified the suspects and promised swift justice.
Blanco thanked fans on Instagram for their support and mourned the loss of his “great friend” Alejo. Local police said Blanco’s actions helped drive the attackers away, though chaos ensued as customers sought cover under tables. The former midfielder, once with Brazilian side Gremio, is currently without a club and had been managing the targeted venue.
