Raúl Jiménez received widespread acclaim for his outstanding performances in the CONCACAF Nations League Final. The Mexican striker played a key role in securing Mexico’s first title in the tournament’s history, scoring twice against Canada in the semifinals and netting another brace against Panama in the final.
The three-time World Cup participant made history by becoming the first player to score four goals in the finals, surpassing Christian Pulisic’s three-goal tally from the 2023 edition.
French football icon and CBS Sports analyst Thierry Henry had high praise for the Fulham forward, stating, “They have a player who makes the difference—Raúl Jiménez. I truly believe he was the deciding factor. If you put him in Canada or the United States’ squad, he could help them win tournaments. That’s the kind of player he is.”
Jiménez’s journey back to the top has been remarkable. In late 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, he suffered a life-threatening skull fracture following a collision with David Luiz while playing for Wolverhampton at the Emirates Stadium. The injury could have ended his career, but after a long and determined recovery, he returned to the pitch and continued to find the back of the net.
Since his comeback, Jiménez has featured in 118 matches for Wolverhampton and Fulham, the club he joined for the 2023-24 season, scoring 28 goals. On the international stage, he has netted 13 goals for Mexico since his return.
Reflecting on his journey and Mexico’s triumph, Jiménez expressed his joy: “It’s incredible to be back after everything I’ve been through. I’m very happy, and I hope my story serves as an example to never lose faith and keep pushing forward. As a team, we defended when we had to, attacked when needed, and changed our mindset. Both we and Vasco share the same passion for representing Mexico, and that motivation drove us.”
With his four goals in the Nations League Final Four, Jiménez reached 39 goals for El Tri, surpassing Cuauhtémoc Blanco (38) to become Mexico’s third-highest all-time scorer. He now sets his sights on Jared Borgetti (46) and record-holder Javier Hernández (52) as he climbs the ranks of Mexico’s greatest goal scorers.
